Nahant Town Hall announced it is seeking applications from college-aged residents for a summer intern position.

The part-time position is paid hourly, with an expected work week of approximately 20 hours.

“Applicants should have a strong knowledge and understanding of the digital media landscape, including various social-media platforms and strong communication skills,” a press release from Town Hall reads.

Requirements to apply include a high-school degree, social-media experience, and computer knowledge, specifically with Microsoft software programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. The release described some of the position’s responsibilities, such as posting social-media and online content, responding to emails, preparing PowerPoint presentations, assisting in town projects, and performing office duties like answering phones and sorting mail.

Town Administrator Tony Barletta named projects that interns in previous years played an instrumental role in, such as the farmer’s market and the campaign to raise awareness of the town’s coyote presence. He emphasized that the town tries to cater to its interns’ skill sets and interests.

“We really try to work with the interns to introduce them to local government and the different procedures and day-to-day tasks that occur,” Barletta said. “We seek their help on public engagement, social-media presence, things like that.”

While Town Hall’s job posting only lists one potential intern, Barletta said there is a possibility that more could be hired.
