You know what I’ve been thinking? Sometimes, an offseason slows you down, but don’t tell that to Coco Clopton.
The Swampscott girls lacrosse star finished a phenomenal junior season last spring, one in which she scored 49 goals, dished out 28 assists, and registered 65 draw controls.
Now, a senior in game number one of the season, Clopton picked up where she left off – and then some.
On home turf, she scored four goals and provided an assist in Swampscott’s 17-3 win against Saugus (1-1) on Thursday. They came in style, too.
Let’s talk about the Big Blue for a moment. A year ago, they won 13 games, defeated Dedham, 17-5, in the Division 3 state tournament, and, frankly, bombarded opposing goalies with shots.
With several key returners – Clopton included – let’s see what Swampscott has in store this spring. Its mission continues Tuesday against visiting Essex Tech at 4:30 p.m.
Coco, good week.
